Teenage girl commits suicide after being coerced for having physical relations in Jamshedpur

A teenage girl committed suicide after being pressured into physical relations by a private police driver in Sitaramdera thana in the steel town.

The girl, identified as Gauri Mukhi (17), hanged herself in the bathroom on Friday morning after she was pressured to accept the police driver's proposal, an ordeal the victim was enduring for the past two months.

Soon after the suicide case went viral in the area, residents of Sitaramdera Harijan Bustee, the place where the victim would have lived, staged a blockade on Slag Road in Sitaramdera along with the girl's body, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused police driver.

Gauri Mukhi, daughter of Gomo Ravidas, was recently admitted to Tinplate Women's College but has remained tense ever since a police driver identified as Rocky went after her to outrage her chastity. Significantly, Gauri's mother Punam Mukhi is currently lodged in Ghaghidih Central Jail after she was arrested for selling marijuana.

According to Gomo Ravidas, Rocky and another person identified as Pratap Mukhi would not only intimidate Gauri by getting physical with her but also assault her.

“Accused Rocky and Pratap barged into his house on Thursday evening and asked my daughter to accept Rocky's demand for a physical relationship with him. When she refused to do anything, the two assaulted her before leaving my house. In the morning, my daughter committed suicide,” a helpless Ravidas explained while talking to the media.

The road blockade lasted for over two hours before it was lifted after the intervention of senior police officers. However, the Sitaramdera thana OC, Vishwanath, denied the victim's family's claims that a Sitaramdera thana private driver caused the suicide of the teenage girl.

"The girl's mother is now in jail for dealing in marijuana, but no thana driver as such demanded to have a physical relationship with the deceased," Vishwanath said. However, the responsible OV admitted that Rocky was working as a private police driver until two years ago and added that the investigation into the matter is in full swing.
